About

I'm a Toronto freelance medical writer with a decade of experience writing for news media, magazines, health charities, businesses, and peer-reviewed journals.

I've written for the National Post, CBC, and Healthing.ca, as well as numerous magazines. I've also written extensively for health charities such as Diabetes Canada, Heart and Stroke Canada, Fighting Blindness Canada, and the ALS Society of Canada. I have an H.B.Sc. in neuroscience from the University of Toronto, where I graduated with high distinction in 2016.

I have an SEO certificate and a solid understanding of how content performs online, and am always incorporating on-page SEO strategies into my online work.

My favourite kinds of work right now are news stories, magazine articles, peer-reviewed journal article writing, and health charity writing. I am open to everything from small articles, to magazine features, to large-scale independent research projects.

Topics of interest

I'm interested in almost anything health and science related, and am always ready to learn something new. I have experience and interest in writing about neuroscience, reproductive health, parenting, diabetes, cancer, ophthalmology, personality psychology, mental health, addiction, cannabis and autism among many other topics. This list is not exhaustive and I am interested in many more topics.

Working together

If you want to work together, you can share some details about your project and I can provide a quote. For a typical article or blog post, all I need is a topic and anything you specifically want covered. I have a general preference for asynchronous work via email.

What do you think about AI?

I think AI is really cool. But AI cannot do this job yet. To an experienced medical writer, the errors and nonsense generated by AI are plain to see. I personally don't like the way AI writes, either. However, medical writers can use AI strategically for such tasks as creating bibliographies, summarizing research, and formatting. It's my personal opinion that these uses should be relatively limited and that they require human oversight, at least for now.

Do you work in French?

I have intermediate French language skills. I am comfortable reading and writing French but less comfortable generating it on the spot. In practice this means I can perform some work tasks in French, but reach out to discuss further.

Aren't you a Hamilton medical writer?

It's true, I live in Hamilton. I started my business in Toronto, where I lived my entire life, and moved westward in 2020. There's more search traffic for Toronto medical writers, and I'm close enough, so it makes sense to stick with it. But yes, I am indeed a Hamilton medical writer.
